neoTV  Troubleshooting

1-1

What is the difference between the trial version and the full version of neoTV?

The trial version will only work for 30 days, everything else is the same.

1-2

The audio does not record; however, I hear audio while watching TV, why?

neoTV will only record the audio using the input source you have chosen on the input settings page; however, if your TV tuner’s audio output is hooked up to an input that is on then you will still hear audio when watching TV. We do not record all audio inputs so that we do not mix in system sounds during the recording. This method also allows you to continue to use your PC for other tasks, like MP3 playback, even while recording scheduled TV programs.

Please check your audio settings again by clicking on the Input settings in Options.

1-3

How can I record two shows back to back using the scheduler?

The scheduler requires 5 minutes between recordings to allow neoTV to both close a DVD disc and to prepare to write a new disc. This limitation makes it more complicated to record back to back shows using the iEPG. A workaround for this problem is to manually change the recording length to cover both programs.

1-4

Will neoTV work on systems slower than the minimum recommended speed?

Yes, neoTV should allow you to watch TV on slower system. You may also be able to record at “good” or “better” video quality; however, you may also see some skipped frames. If you are not sure how neoTV will perform on your system you should always test the trial version first.

1-5

If my TV tuner card is not on the supported list does that mean it will not work?

No, neoTV should work with any TV tuner board that uses standard WDM drivers; however, you should always test the trial version first. Please report any results to technical support.

1-6

neoTV does not recognize my analog video capture card. Which cards are supported by neoTV?

These cards have been fully tested and verified to be compatible with neoTV, other analog capture cards may work with the software.

In general if the capture card uses WDM directshow driver and does not contain a hardware mpeg2 encoder then it should work with neoDVD. However we have not test them and can't guarantee that they will work.

How can I enable DMA transfer for my disk drives?

Most hard disk drives and optical drives (i.e. CD-Recordable and DVD-Recordable drives) support DMA (Direct Memory Access) transfer.

You must enable the DMA (Direct Memory Access) transfer feature on your disk drives to guarantee the best video quality and performance. To check if the DMA Transfer feature of your disk drive is enabled, please go through the following steps, depending on your operating system:

  • For Windows 98 (SE) and Windows Me: Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel. Next, double-click on the System icon. Go to the Device Manager option and double click on the Disk Drives entry. Right click on the list item corresponding to your drive, e.g. "Generic IDE disk type 01." Click on Properties and then select the Settings tab. Checkmark the DMA box to enable DMA on your Hard Drive.

  • For Windows 2000: Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel. Next, double-click on the System icon. Click on the Hardware tab and then select Device Manager. Next, double click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controller in the Device Manager window. Right click and select the Properties option on the available channels corresponding to your drive, e.g. "Primary or Secondary IDE Channel." Select the Advanced Settings tab and then select DMA if available from the drop down menu next to the Transfer Mode option.

  • For Windows XP: Click on Start > Control Panel > Performance & Maintenance. Next, double-click on the System option. Click on the Hardware tab and then select Device Manager. Double click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controller in the Device Manager window. Right click and select the Properties option on the available channels corresponding to your drive, e.g. "Primary or Secondary IDE Channel." Select the Advanced Settings tab and then select DMA if available from the drop down menu next to the Transfer Mode option.
