I get a message that there are no drives connected
when I launch neoRECORDER
- Does neoRECORDER support your drive?
If neoRECORDER does not support your drive, you cannot use
it.
- Is the drive recognized in the Explorer or the device
manager?
If the Explorer or the Device Manager do not properly recognize
the drive, you cannot use neoRECORDER. Check your drive
connections and settings.
If the drive is still not properly recognized by the Explorer
or the Device Manager, contact the drive maker telling them
that the drive is not being recognized by the Device Manager.
If the Explorer and the Device Manager properly recognize
the drive, the ASPI Manager is the cause of the problem.
Check the ASPI Manager using one of the methods below: Windows
95/98/Me, Windows
NT, Windows
2000, Windows
XP.
- Does the Search Host Adapter search the bus to which
the drive is connected? (Windows 98/98SE/Me Users)
neoRECORDER searches all the connected buses when it launches.
If the bus is not searched, the drive will not be recognized.
Hold the [Ctrl] key while launching neoRECORDER to display
the Search Host Adapter window. Confirm that the bus to
which the drive is connected is checked in this window.
- Does the Search Host Adapter recognize the bus to which
the drive is connected? (Windows 98/98SE/Me Users)
Hold the [Ctrl] key while launching neoRECORDER to display
the Search Host Adapter window. Confirm that the bus to
which the drive is connected appears in the window. If the
drive is not recognized here, you cannot use it with neoRECORDER.
In this case, the ASPI Manager is the cause of the problem.
Check the ASPI Manager using one of the methods below: Windows
95/98/Me, Windows
NT, Windows
2000, Windows
XP.
- Disable Auto-Protect.
We have found that if the Norton AntiVirus [Auto-Protect]
option is enabled, the drive will not be recognized properly.
Disable [Auto-Protect], then launch neoRECORDER. The same
problem occurs when using Virus Buster.

The message "The ASPI Manager has not been installed"
appears when I launch neoRECORDER
- Check the ASPI Manager
neoRECORDER uses the Windows ASPI Manager to recognize the
drive. (Under Windows 98 and Me, neoRECORDER uses the B.H.A
ASPI Manager.) Each time 3rd-party recording software or
utilities are installed the ASPI Manager is overwritten.
This may present problems that can usually be resolved by
resetting the ASPI Manager to standard Windows condition
(or to the B.H.A ASPI Manager under Windows 2000 and XP).
Click on your system for further instructions: Windows
95/98/Me, Windows
NT, Windows
2000, Windows
XP.
- Is the drive connected? Is it switched on?
This message will appear when there is the drive is not
connected or switched on. If you confirmed the ASPI Manager
in 1. above and the drive is still not recognized, check
the drive connection and settings.

The message "The B.H.A CDR/CDRW control program
running" appears when I try to launch neoRECORDER
Are you using neoCLIP?
When you have the MedioStream packet writing application,
neoCLIP, installed on your PC, you cannot launch neoRECORDER
if neoCLIP is running. neoCLIP will control the drive if you
have a blank disc or a neoCLIP formatted disc inserted. Eject
the disc and launch neoRECORDER, then reinsert the disc.
There may also be a problem with the ASPI Manager. Click
on your system for further instructions on checking the ASPI
Manager: Windows
95/98/Me, Windows
NT, Windows
2000, Windows
XP.
This message also appears when you re-launch neoRECORDER
after it has crashed. (neoRECORDER is still controlling the
system drive.) You can launch neoRECORDER without any problems
after you restart Windows.

[Windows 2000 & XP] I am using a computer
with a VIA KT266, KT333, or KT400 chipset and I can't launch
neoRECORDER 7. The system hangs.
The cause of this problem is the VIA IDE Miniport Driver.
neoRECORDER 7 scans the buses for drives when launching.
If you have the VIA IDE Miniport Driver installed on your
computer, all ATAPI drives, such as writable DVD, CD-RW and
CD-ROM drives, are recognized as SCSI drives by Windows. This
causes the computer to freeze or a blue error window to appear.
When launching, neoRECORDER 7 retrieves information from
all devices (drives) and sends ATAPI devices ATAPI commands
and SCSI devices SCSI commands based on the Windows registry
information.
In the case above, ATAPI devices are recognized as SCSI devices
due to the IDE controller, so the information the drive sends
in response to the neoRECORDER 7 SCSI command is not returned
to neoRECORDER 7, but instead to the OS file. Hence, the OS
receives an undefined command from the device and an error
occurs in the SCSIPORT.SYS.
Uninstall the VIA IDE Miniport Driver.
- Download the IDE Miniport Driver from the VIA Website.
- Launch the installer.
- Click [Next] on the "Welcome" window.
- Select [Uninstall] on the "Select Components"
windows, then click [Next].
- Follow the rest of the Wizard instructions, then restart
Windows when uninstallation is complete.
You can also solve the problem by downloading and installing
the 4in1 Driver from the VIA Website and using it instead
of the Windows standard IDE controller.

The screen freezes neoRECORDER 7 is launched or
it does not launch properly when a USB removable card reader
is connected to the PC.
This occurs when the exchange of commands between removable
devices, such as card readers, and neoRECORDER 7 is not executed
properly while neoRECORDER 7 is verifying the buses (adapters)
at launching. In normal situations, the device would respond
to the neoRECORDER 7 command, but when there is no response,
the screen freezes.
Devices such as card readers are not supported by neoRECORDER
7, but since DVD-RAM drives are supported, all removable devices
are verified at launching.
This problem is fixed using one of the following methods.
neoRECORDER 7 should launch properly, because it is not verifying
the removable devices.
- Disable [Removable Drive] under the [Drive Check Settings]
in the neoRECORDER 7 Options.
- Disconnect all card readers and other removable devices,
except the DVD-RAM drive, before launching neoRECORDER 7.

[Windows 2000 & XP] I cannot launch neoRECORDER
7 on a computer with a nForce2 chipset motherboard. I get
a blue error window.
This is caused by the NVIDIA IDE SW Driver.
neoRECORDER 7 scans the buses for drives when launching.
If you have the NVIDIA IDE SW Driver installed on your computer,
all ATAPI drives, such as writable DVD, CD-RW and CD-ROM drives,
are recognized as SCSI drives by Windows. This causes the
computer to freeze or a blue error window to appear.
Confirm the Windows standard hard disk controller. Exchange
the IDE SW Driver for the Windows standard driver using the
following procedure, and relaunch neoRECORDER 7 again.
Note: The following procedure is the standard procedure for
changing the driver. You may not be able to use this procedure
on some computers. In this case, contact the computer or parts
manufacturer for more details.
- Open the Device Manager.
- Double click on [NVIDIA nForce (TM) IDE Controller] to
display the property window.
- Click on the [Driver] tab.
- Click on the [Update Driver] button.
- Enable [Install from a list or specific location] on the
Hardware Update Wizard that appears, then click [Next].
* Under Windows 2000, enable [Display a list of the known
drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific
driver].
- Enable [Don't search. I will choose the driver to install],
then click [Next].
* This window does not appear in Windows 2000.
- Select [Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller] from
the list, then click [Next].
- Restart Windows when installation is complete, then launch
neoRECORDER 7.
When installing or reinstalling uninstalled NVIDIA drivers,
click [No] when you are asked, "Do you want to install
the NVIDIA IDE SW driver?"

When I launch neoRECORDER 7, I get a message that
"a new device was added" and that I should restart
Windows.
This error message appears when you first launch neoRECORDER
7 after you installed it. When neoRECORDER 7 is installed,
a BHA driver is installed as the CD/DVD drive driver, so when
you first launch the software the CD/DVD drives are recognized
for the first time. Click [Yes] and restart Windows.
If this message appears the next time you launch neoRECORDER
7 and the drive is not recognized, check whether there is
a [!] or a [X] on the drive icon in the Device Manager. If
so, use the following procedure to check whether the drive
is being recognized properly.
- Uninstall neoRECORDER 7 using [Add/Remove Programs] in
the Control Panel.
- Check whether the neoRECORDER 7 folder is still in the
Programs folder. If it is, delete it.
- Open the Device Manager and delete the CD/DVD drive.
- Restart Windows. The drive you deleted in step 3 will
be recognized again.
- Reinstall neoRECORDER 7 and update it to the latest version
by selecting [Updater Information] in the Help menu, or
by downloading the latest version from the Updater page.
- Launch neoRECORDER 7 and the message will appear telling
you that "a new device was added."
- Click [Yes] and restart Windows.
- Launch neoRECORDER 7.
If the problem persists, contact the Support
with details of the CD/DVD drive, maker, model and connection
interface.

[Windows 2000 & XP] When I try to launch the
software, a blue screen appears for an instant, then Windows
restarts automatically.
There may be conflict between driver files when launching
the software causing the blue screen to appear.
The cause of this problem can be deduced by the error that
appears when the blue screen appears. Windows is configured
to automatically restart when the blue screen appears, so
you cannot confirm the error message.
Use the following method to confirm the error that is causing
the blue screen to appear. Contact Support
with the details of the error message, so we can help you
solve the problem. Note: MedioStream Support does not provide
telephone support.
- Right click on [My Computer] icon on the desktop, then
select [Properties] from the contextual pop-up menu. (You
can also open the same window by double clicking on the
[System] icon in [Control Panel].)
- Click the [Advanced] tab of the System Properties window
- Click the [Settings] button under "Startup and Recovery".
- Disable (uncheck) the "Automatically restart"
option under "System failure".
- Click [OK].
- Try launching the application again. If the blue screen
appears, take a note of the error message that appears,
like the examples below.
Example 1:
dvd_2k.sys Pagefault in nonpage area
stop:0x00000050(0xF2B5D000,0x00000000,0xF78AF3A6,0x00000000)
dvd_2k.sys address F78AF3A6 base at F78AF000, Datestamp

[Windows 2000 & XP] I cannot launch
neoRECORDER 7 on a computer with an ATA extension board. I
get a blue error screen.
The ATA device may possibly be recognized as a virtual-SCSI
device.
If an ATAPI drive (e.g. writable DVD, CD-RW or CD-ROM) is
connected to the computer via an ATA extension board, or a
mother board extension ATA bus (e.g. RAID bus), the drive
is recognized as a virtual-SCSI drive by Windows.
neoRECORDER 7 verifies host adapters (buses) while launching
and recognizes any connected writable DVD, CD-RW or CD-ROM
drives. It retrieves information from each of the connected
devices (drives) based on the information in the Windows registry.
An ATAPI command to an ATAPI device, a SCSI command to a SCSI
device.
In this case, the IDE controller causes the ATAPI device
to be recognized as a SCSI device, so neoRECORDER 7 sends
the device a SCSI command. The correct command is not received
from the ATAPI device causing an unexpected error in "SYSIPORT.SYS".
If neoRECORDER 7 recognizes an ATAPI drive as a SCSI drive,
this process is inhibited and causing the system to freeze
and a blue screen to appear.
Error example
*** STOP:0x000000BE (0xA0001000, 0x059F6121, 0x8047301C, 0x0000000A)
An attempt was made to write to read-only memory.
This driver may be at fault : SCSIPORT.SYS
To fix the problem, do not connect the drive to the ATA extension
board, but directly to the standard motherboard ATA bus. If
you have an extension ATA bus connected to the motherboard,
follow the manual to connect the drive to the standard ATA
bus.
