How do I create a DVD-Video?

To create a DVD-Video with neoRECORDER, you will need to prepare a DVD-Video image (which includes both VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders) with DVD-Video authoring (editing) software, such as neoDVD.

Drag'n'drop the image created with the DVD-Video authoring software (both VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders) into the Data field or use the Data CD Wizard, then record the image onto a disc.

The DVD-Video image is less than 4.7 GB in size, but I get an error message saying that there is not enough disc space.

There is a problem with the DVD-Video image file. When creating a DVD-Video, the files are not recorded in order from the beginning, but in the order and position decided by the DVD-Video image. If the position of a file is outside the capacity of the disc, the error message "There is insufficient free disc space" appears.

Re-edit the DVD-Video image file using DVD-Video authoring software. The software should have a setting to specify the type of disc onto which you intend to record. Make sure it is set to "DVD."

Note: neoRECORDER 7 does not support copying retail DVD-Videos due to copyright laws and restrictions.

I want to close a DVD+RW disc, so no additional data can be recorded onto it, but the [Close CD] option is gray.

You cannot close a border on DVD+RW discs in line with the DVD+RW standard.

I can only create a [VIDEO_TS] folder using authoring software. Can I create a DVD-Video without a [AUDIO_TS] folder?

Yes. As long as you have a [VIDEO_TS] folder, you do not need a [AUDIO_TS] folder to create a DVD-Video.

I cannot view the DVD I recorded on a DVD-ROM drive.

Check that the DVD-ROM drive supports the recordable DVD disc. Some DVD-ROM drives do not support playing DVD-R/RW or DVD+RW/R discs. Contact the drive maker for more details on which discs the DVD-ROM drive supports.

Is there a limit to the file size of the data to be recorded onto a DVD?

The maximum file size is 2 GB for a DVD-Video file and 4 GB for a data file. If you add a data file that is over 4 GB into the field, the following message appears: "You cannot use a file which is more than 4 GB due to ISO9660 restrictions".

My PC freezes when I record onto a DVD disc. The Task Manager says the program is not responding.

Recording onto a DVD disc takes time. In some cases, depending on the number of files being recorded, it takes approximately an hour between when the "Fixing file location" message appears and actual recording begins.

Also, when recording data with a total capacity of less than 1 GB in DAO or with [Close Disc] enabled, invisible virtual data is internally recorded at the end of the actual data to ensure that the disc is compatible with the DVD standard and can be played on most DVD drives.

On standard computers, it usually takes about 10 minutes to record 1 GB of data at 2x, so please be patient.

I get an error message, "An error occurred in converting the multiplexor" when creating a DVD-Video.

Check the amount of free space on your hard drive.

When creating a 4.7 GB DVD-Video, you need over 10 GB of free space on the temporary drive. This error occurs when there is not enough free space.

Check which drive is selected as the temporary drive in the Options window, then check that there is over 10 GB of free space on that drive.

I have free space on my DVD-R/RW or DVD+R disc, but I cannot record additional data onto it.

neoRECORDER 7 supports DVD-R and DVD+R multi-border recording, allowing you to record additional data onto the disc.

However, you cannot record additional data onto a disc recorded using a version of neoRECORDER 5 that does not support multi-border recording. (Version 5.21 supported DVD+R multi-border recording and version 5.24 supported DVD-R/RW multi-border recording.)

Note: You cannot read a multi-border DVD-R or DVD+R on all computers. We recommend you check what OS the disc will be read under before recording additional data on the disc. The drive must support multi-border to record a multi-border disc. Multi-border DVD-R and DVD+R discs can be read under the following conditions:
OS: Windows 2000 (SP3 or later), Windows XP
* You require a DVD drive that supports multi-border reading.
If you use the disc with Windows 2000 (SP2 or earlier), Windows Me or Windows 98, Windows will not read the multi-border section and the additional data cannot be viewed.

Why is the disc capacity of a 4.7 GB DVD shown as 4.3 GB?

You cannot record 4.7 GB of data on a 4.7 GB DVD.

The capacity of a 4.7 GB DVD is actually calculated in units of 1,000 bytes.
1 GB = 1,000 MB = 1,000,000 KB = 1,000,000,000 bytes
A computer calculates capacity in units of 1,024 bytes, so a 4.7 GB disc has a capacity of 4.3 to 4.4 GB on a computer.

When I play a DVD-Video I created on a home DVD player, the screen is split vertically.

If you created the DVD-Video using a 4x DVD-R disc, the screen appears split when played on some old DVD players. The player does not support 4x DVD-R discs, so create the DVD-Video again using a 2x DVD-R disc.

I get an error message saying that "the current track structure cannot be recorded onto a DVD (R/RW)."

You can only record UDF or ISO9660 tracks onto a DVD-R/RW disc. You cannot record ISO9660 CD image files (with extensions such as *.ISO or *.IMG) onto a DVD disc. Also, you cannot add multiple tracks into the Track Edit field and record them.

I get an error message saying that "the current track structure cannot be recorded onto a DVD+RW/R/RAM."

You can only record UDF or ISO9660 tracks onto a DVD+RW/R/RAM disc. You cannot record ISO9660 CD image files (with extensions such as *.ISO or *.IMG) onto a DVD disc. Also, you cannot add multiple tracks into the Track Edit field and record them.

Note: DVD+R should have been included in this error message, but it was not. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I cannot play the DVD-Video disc I created with a DVD-RAM disc on my DVD player.

A DVD-Video created using a DVD-RAM disc cannot be played on a DVD player.

Use a DVD-R/RW disc when creating a DVD-Video to be used on a DVD player.

DVD players support a special format called DVD-VR which enables a DVD-RAM to be recorded as a DVD-Video and be played on DVD players.

neoRECORDER 7 does not support DVD-VR format in which DVD-Video should be created when using a DVD-RAM disc. Hence, the DVD-RAM disc is recorded in ordinary DVD-Video format and cannot be played on a DVD player.

Also, this is the reason that a DVD-RAM disc formatted by a DVD player is not recognized properly by neoRECORDER 7 when inserted into a computer drive.

What does the "Emphasize the reading compatibility" option, which appears in the Option Properties when I connect a DVD+RW/R drive, mean?

This setting is found in the [DVD+RW/R] tab in the Advanced Drive Settings in the Options Properties window.

The DVD-ROM standard has a minimum data requirement of 1 GB. If the recorded disc has less than 1 GB of data on it, a DVD-ROM drive cannot read it. So, enabling this option records invisible virtual data (dummy data) internally at the end of the actual data to ensure that the disc is compatible with the DVD standard and can be played on most DVD drives.

Note that when recording small quantities of data onto a DVD+RW/R, you may not be able to record additional data onto the disc due to the use of dummy data.
