There are a handful of video-editing programs that include tools for recording video projects to DVD, but most don’t. Instead, you have to output your projects to a VHS tape or save them as files on your computer. But this is the DVD age, and if you’re into video editing, you should have a program that can convert your video projects to DVD or VCD (video CD). With MedioStream’s neoDVDplus 4.0, you can burn the video to disc in just a few steps.

When you start neoDVDplus 4.0, the program opens the NEO TaskBar, which contains four icons for the program’s modules: one for video capture, one for DVD/VCD creation, one for copying DVDs or VCDs, and one that takes you to MedioStream’s online store. Simply click the appropriate icon to open the module you want to use.

Use the Capture Video module to capture video either through a video capture card or from a digital camcorder. The program will detect all video sources attached to your PC. Choose the source and click the Capture button. There are only a handful of settings in this module. For example, you can set the Output Format for the video: choose MPEG- 1 (Moving Picture Experts Group-1) for VCDs, or MPEG-2 for DVDs.

Once you’ve captured the video, you can close the Capture module and open the Create VCD/DVD module. This module includes a wizard that will guide you through all the options you should set before you create the disc. The wizard includes nine steps, including selecting the background image for the DVD menu and creating text for the menu. Once you’ve finished the wizard, the program will record the video either to your hard drive or to disc.

The Copy module is pretty straightforward. If you have a DVD or VCD you want to copy (legally, of course), simply drop the disc into one optical drive and copy it to a writeable disc in the writeable drive. Click the Copy button, and neoDVDplus 4.0 will do its thing.

This program should not be confused with a video-editing program. It doesn’t include a lot of transitions or tools for tweaking audio and video files. But what it does, it does well.
