Board of Directors
Edward B. Collins (Chairman)
Edward (Ted) Collins brings extensive investment banking, management and law practice experience to MedioStream. Ted Collins is currently Managing Director and Partner at ChinaVest where he is involved in private equity investment in greater China. From 1988 to 1994, Ted Collins was Partner at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown, & Enersen where he was responsible for Greater China Practice. From 1978 to 1988, Ted Collins was Partner at Kaplan, Russin, Vecchi, Eytan, & Collins and served as a counsel to various Hong Kong and Taiwan investment groups. Ted Collins holds a MBA from George Washington University and a law (J.D.) degree from the American University. Edward Collins is a member of the State Bar of California (1976) and the State Bar of Texas (1973). In addition to MedioStream, Ted Collins is currently also board director of the following companies:

  • Dr. Cheng C. Kao (President)
    Dr. Kao started his career as a research scientist at Xerox. He subsequently held a range of engineering R&D management positions, was on the board of Directors for the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering and wrote for a number of professional journal articles prior to founding Kolyn International, where he serves as President & CEO.
    Kolyn International has worldwide business interests spanning electronics, real estate development and construction. Dr. Kao has been a critical member of the MedioStream board since 1999. He served as the company's COO for a period during its formation time, prior to becoming President. Dr. Kao holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University.


    Gordon Chan (Treasurer)
    Gordon Chan brings more than 30 years of international management experience to the role of President of the Shanghai group. Gordon's background in international shipping and trading gives him unique insights into cross cultural management and provides the Shanghai group with tested leadership that enables it to sell directly into the global marketplace. As a founding member of the MedioStream Board of Directors, Gordon has been a key player in the continued success of the company.
    Gordon holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering granted by The University of California at Berkeley in 1974.


    Dr. Godwin Wong
    For the last 22 years, Godwin Wong has been on the faculty of the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on the specialty areas of IT/MIS, eBusiness, Entrepreneurship, Venture Capital, International Management. He has also lectured to senior executives in 20 countries, been to Europe 40 times and Asia 50 times. For the last 12 years, he has been on the Board of Directors of a US$10 Billion California bank. As one of the founding board members of MedioStream, he has also served on the boards of other high-tech and financial companies in different countries, has been appointed as Chief Expert Advisor by the city government of Beijing Hai Dian, and has served as consultant/advisor for various organizations. He received his baccalaureate from Wisconsin, master's from U.C.L.A., and doctorate from Harvard.

    James C. Sha
    Jim Sha is managing partner of Spring Creek Ventures, which he founded in 1998. The partnership specializes in early stage investment and business consultation. He served on the boards of a number of technology companies. He is also the chairman of the Monte Jade Global Association.
    In 1999 he served as CEO at Sina.com. From 1996 to 1998 Jim Sha was Senior Vice President, Commerce Solutions at Netscape Communications. He was concurrently President and CEO of Actra Business Systems, a Netscape and GE Information Services joint venture. Between 1994 and 1996 Jim Sha was Vice President and General Manager of business-to-consumer integrated application at Netscape.
    Jim Sha's previous experience included Vice President at Oracle Corporation, and Vice President and General Manager, Advanced Systems, Wyse Technology. Jim Sha holds a MS in EECS from the University of California at Berkeley, a MBA from Santa Clara University, and a BS in EE from Taiwan University.

    Dr. Chung Ching Yang, VP, COO
    Chung Ching (CC) Yang managed and conducted research and product development effort in various technical areas at Hewlett Packard Laboratories for more than twenty-two years. They included e-beam lithography, high performance electronic packaging, magneto-optic storage, atomic resolution storage and nano-materials and technologies. Prior to joining HP, he worked at Xerox Corporation Research Centers. While at Xerox he engaged research and development in a variety of novel imaging and marking technologies, such as photoactive pigment electrophotography, ionography, thermal printing, electrophotography and inkjet technology. CC was also instrumental in the starting and establishment of a material research and development center for Xerox in Canada. CC holds a Ph.D. and M.S. degree in Physics of Condensed Matters from Harvard University, and a BS in EE from UCLA.

    Dr. Kai-ching Chu, VP Strategic Planning
    Kai-ching has over 30 years experience in computer software and system research and development. Prior to joining MedioStream, he provided principal engineering and research services to IBM, Adobe Systems, Fujitsu, all in digital media areas. He also held executive management roles at Newsoft, Umax Data Systems, and ITRI, an industrial services company, where he served as the President.
    Kai-ching is one of the founding members of MedioStream Software (Shanghai). He has published over 40 papers on decision and control, computer communications, signal processing, image and digital video on various technical journals and conferences. Kai-ching holds a Ph.D. degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University.


    Stephane Desproges, VP, CTO
    Stephane has over 14 years experience in engineering and signal processing solutions.
    He started his career in France with Philips Semiconductors, where he was involved with high-speed Analog-Digital converters for integrated systems, such as cellular base stations, ultrasound medical systems, camcorders, PC video capture cards, and digital TV.
    Prior to joining MedioStream in 2000, Philips Semiconductors relocated Stephane to the US office where he led the company's OEM support, software, and hardware design activities for PC camera products for 3 years.
    He also has international experience, having worked in Guinea-Bissau (Africa), where he led the establishment and maintenance of the Information management systems for that country's Customs Department.
    Stephane has diplomas in Electronic Engineering and Signal Processing from University of Paris XI and EFREI in Paris, France.
